2007 Les Tonnelles, Domaines du Château de Riquewihr, Dopff & Irion, Elzas, France, Alsace
‘Dopff and Irion’ is one of the most famous and ancient wine producers in the Alsace region.
The words "Les Tonnelles" refer to a part of the Castle of Riquewihr domain that is planted with Pinot Noir. Tonelles was a cultivating mode of the vine, practiced by the Romans and it was perpetuated in the Alsace till the Middle Ages and even the Renaissance.
The vineyard is 1.25 hectare and the vines’ age hovers around twenty years. Clay soil north of Riquewihr and silty clay in the south.
Only manual harvesting.
Vinification: maceration after destemming with temperature control during 10 to 15 days after a slight heating of the juice. Matured on inox barrels during 9 months before bottling and storage of 9 months to 24 months in bottle before marketing according to the vintage.
