2010 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru, La Garenne, Domaine Etienne Sauzet, Burgundy, France, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Etienne SAUZET was born in 1903. He created his own domain as a result of an inheritance of a few hectares of vines. Over the years, he acquired more vineyards until the area covered just over 12 hectares in 1950. Since his death in 1975, his daughter Jeanine and her husband Gerard Boudot, assumed the direction of the domain.

In 1991, following a split of the vineyard due to a succession, the field was reduced to a little less than 9 hectares. To compensate this reduction, they purchase a small percentage of the grapes from some good winemakers in the appellation. However, Domaine Etienne Sauzet relies first and foremost on his estate as owner-grower, the party purchased grapes being just a booster.

Since the 2000 vintage, Emilie, the daughter of Gerard and Jeanine is working alongside them. Her husband, Benedict Riffault, joined them in 2002.

The vinification and aging of wines are adapted to each vintage. The whole grapes are pressed in a pneumatic press for more than 2 hours. The must is then cooled for 24 hours before settling. Musts are transferred to oak barrels, where the alcoholic fermentation takes. It is monitored daily by controlling densities and temperatures. Depending on the vintage, fermentation can take from 2 weeks to several months.

This wine comes from a small vineyard of 0.5 hectares. Average age of the vines is 50 years. The wine is matured in oak barrels from the forests of Allier and Vosges from which 20% are renewed every year.

Light fining and light filtration before bottling.
