2006 Domaine David Duband, Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy, France, Chambolle-Musigny

Chambolle-Musigny is a tiny commune in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. It has a population of fewer than 400 but enjoys an historic and widespread reputation for its high-quality wines. The village produces almost exclusively red wines from Pinot Noir. A small quantity of white wine is also made here, from Chardonnay grapes grown in the prestigious Le Musigny Grand Cru vineyard.

The classic Chambolle-Musigny wine is powerful, yet refined and perfumed, characterized by its balance of richness and elegance. Along with Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin, the village is considered to be a source of the finest Pinot Noir wines on earth.

Installed in 1991 on the family estate, David Duband now operates 17 hectares bio (including six owned) Côte de Nuits with the financial support of Francois Feuillet. The work in the vineyard and in the winery is made in order to obtain wines respecting the identity of the land while treating the finesse of the tannins and developing fruity aromas extraction. The 2007 David Duband wines are very delicate and fruit with excellent minerality and purity.

Today, the grower does not use more than 30% new oak, is tempted by the entire harvest technique, uses no herbicides since 1998 and switched to organic treatment since 2004. If the method has evolved over the vintages to assert a Duband « style », his passion does not change: « I love fruit in my wines », says David Duband recommending to drink his wines in five years. David Duband makes the following analysis: « It is not because a wine is good when it’s young, that it will not get older. »It is up to the amateur to choose how he loves his Duband.

He has a new cellar at Chevannes, a  functional cathedral with a storage capacity of 960 barrels.

This wine comes from Chambolle-Musigny vines of fifty years old. It is vinified after manual harvesting and stalking in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged 16 months in oak barrels with a small proportion of new barrels.
