Bordeaux Supérieur AOC

The wines from the appellation Bordeaux Superieur are wines produced in the wineyards of Bordeaux, but coming from vines which are older than the average. Bordeaux Superieur accounts for half the wine production in the entire Bordeaux-region. This sort of wine is especially valued for its elegance, style and aromatic complexity resulting in the production of quality wines, very appreciated by our taste buds.

The specific characteristics of the Bordeaux Superieur

Wines from the appellation Bordeaux Superieur are subordinated to strong criterias. The criteria for this type of wine are even stronger than the ones for regular AOC Bordeaux. Older vines need to be used in the production process. The maturation of the produced wines lasts at least 9 months before the bottles can be sold. Both white and red wines are subordinated to the same qualification criterias.

Bordeaux Superieur red or white ?

When it comes to Bordeaux Supérieur, you can choose between Bordeaux Supérieur red and Bordeaux Supérieur white. The grapes used are those from the appellation Bordeaux : Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot , Cabernet Franc , Petit Verdot and Malbec. However, there is a big difference between a white and a red Bordeaux Supérieur and a Bordeaux. Red Bordeaux Superieur is stronger and distinguishes itselfs by its aromatic mix of different berries, flowers and liquorice. Semillon, Sauvignon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon gris grape varieties are used for the white Bordeaux Superieur.
