With its 73 hectares (182.5 acres), the Joseph Drouhin Domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis (38 hectares - 95 acres), Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, (32 hectares - 80 acres) and Côte Chalonnaise (3 hectares - 7.5 acres). It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus, planted with the two Burgundian grape varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. However, they have some nice quality vineyards in Beaujolais. Here they use the Gamay as grape.
The site is located at the northernmost limit of the Beaujolais appellation; one of the most reputed Crus of Beaujolais. The soil consist of pink granite on a steep slope. The density is 9 000 vines/ha and harvesting is done by hand. The vinification is traditional for Beaujolais with semi-carbonic maceration andfull bunches of grapes.
The wine ages on stainless steel vats.
