2012 Grecante, Arnaldo Caprai, Umbria, Italy, DOC Grechetto dei Colli Martani

This wine is produced by the perfectionist winemaker, Marco Caprai. It is not for nothing that this producer has won the prestigious title ‘European Producer of the Year’, awarded by the famous wine magazine Wine Enthusiast.

Arnaldo Caprai , an industrial in the textile sector, has acquired the Domaine Val Di Maggio in 1971. He started with only 5 ha of vineyards, but was soon overwhelmed by the enormous potential of the local grape, Sagrantino, bought the surrounding land and turned it into vineyards. In 1988, his son took over the management of the domain and in 1991, significant amounts were invested in the purchase of new vineyards, in scientific research and technological renewal. New clones of the Sagrantino were identified and they still continue to experiment, both agronomical as well as oenological. Currently, they are the undisputed leaders of the appellation Sagrantino di Montefalco. He has also given the opportunity to Grechetto, a white grape, to show its best qualities, as evidenced by this wine.

Grechetto is one of many "Greek" varieties that were used in the Middle Ages to produce wines similar to those imported from Greece. Nowadays, it is found in Central Italy.
