2008 Pinot Noir Hugel, Elzas, France, Alsace

There are traces of the first Hugel in Alsace since the fifteenth century. Some two centuries later, Hans Ulrich Hugel moved to Riquewihr, a small city devastated by the terrible Thirty Years War. In 1639 he received citizen’s rights of the city and soon became head the powerful Corporation des Vignerons.

Despite its modest size, Hugel has a reputation that has been around the world. Moreover almost presented in all the finest restaurants in France, Hugel wines are exported for nearly 80% in over 100 countries worldwide. The Hugel family has been elected by her peers to be part of "PRIMUM FAMILIAE VINI", an association of twelve family wineries of large wine regions in the world.

For the series of basic wines; Hugel buys grapes from the best places around Riquewihr only among producers of very good reputation with the best locations and with whom they have a long-term contract.

Hugel wines accurately reflect the characteristics of each grape variety and each vintage has an authentic profile of the Alsace.

Produced from the famous grape of Burgundy, this red wine has a light and pleasant character but is still very typical for the Alsace. Fruity and supple, it accompanies meats, red meats and cheeses.
