2007 Les Cèdres - Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Côtes-du-Rhône, France, Châteauneuf du Pape

The history of La Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné, tells a story of a magical encounter: a very generous soil on a hill at the border of the river Rhône and a family with a passion for vine. Founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet (1807-1864) at Tain l’Hermitage, at the bottom of a hill, the domain reaches a boom under the direction of his sons, Paul and Henry. Since then, the heirs follow one after the other to invest in the future of an unique and demanding vineyard. In 2006 a vintner’s family, with a long tradition in Champagne and also owner of the famous Château La Lagune in Bordeaux, takes over La Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîne. This is the start of a new adventure for the family Frey.

Chateauneuf is the most famous appellation of the southern Rhône and also one of the best known in France and abroad. Its rise to fame goes back all the way to the presence of the papal seat in Avignon from 1309 to 1376. It was Pope John XXII who developed the château, which lies in ruins nowadays.

The soil is very stony, essentially composed of pebbles and sandy red clay. The average age of the vines is 45 years. Ageing of 12 months in oak barrels. Yield 35 hl/ha.
