2011 M.O. De Olivara, Castilla Y Leon, Spain, Toro

The wines from Toro are brimming with tradition. Their origins date back to before the settlements of the Romans. They were greatly appreciated in the Middle Ages and enjoyed royal privileges which allowed them to be commercialized in towns and cities where the sale of other wines was forbidden.

These wines filled royal cellars and ships that were to sail to the lands of the New World.

During the 19th century, large quantities were exported to France to fill the gap that had been left by the Phylloxera plague.

In the 1970s, the first measures were taken to create what was to later become the Toro Designation of Origin, which culminated in 1987 with its creation. The Regulating Body for the Toro Designation of origin currently guarantees over 50 wineries.

This is a quite young winery which started his activities in 2000.

The malolactic fermentation was done in oak barrels. The wine matured for 13 months in oak. The grapes come from over 40 years old vines.

Tinta de Toro is the local name for the Tempranillo grape.
