2009 Château Le Breuil Renaissance, Cuvée l'Excellence, Bordeaux, France, Médoc

Family vineyard since 1908 owned by the family Bérard. They began to work the vines with 3 hectares only. The property was built on ancient Gallo-Roman ruins and old amphorae were found, which suggests that the ancestors already cultivated the vine. The soil was so promising that Philippe Bérard bought more land in the area and planted this with vines up to the today’s 39 hectares.

The first vintage Excellence was developed in 1995, a particularly sunny vintage with rich grapes of excellent quality. He made this wine to surprise friends and make them taste an exceptional wine. Philippe Bérard has selected the best Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon on the oldest plots (between 50 and 100 years) to assemble them. They are left to age for 12 months in oak barrels of one or two wines.

Today, the vineyard produces about 10,000 bottles, when nature has been mild. The assembly may vary from one crop to another, but he tries to keep the balance between the two already mentioned varieties.
