2009 Château Citran, Bordeaux, France, Haut-Médoc

Château Citran is a Bordeaux wine from the appellation Haut-Médoc. The winery is located on the left bank of the river Gironde in the municipality of Avensan.

From its origins as a “seigneurie” of the Marquis de Donnissan and a 13th century fortress, the property remained with the Donnissan family for six hundred years until 1832 when it was acquired by the Clauzel family. In 1945, the domain was abandoned and the viticulture knew a mediocre period. The domain is then bought by the family Miailhe who restored the vineyards and rebuilt the intsallations. After a period of decades which re-established the estate's reputation, it was sold in 1986 to the Japanese Company Touko Haus of the holding company Fujimoto.

In 1997 the property came to the Groupe Taillan, led by Jacques Merlaut, who owns several properties in the region, including Château Ferrière, Château Gruaud-Larose, Château Chasse-Spleen.

The vineyard area is 94 hectares. Soils are sandy gravel on marl and chalky clay. Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 25 years old. Manuel harvest. Vinification in stainless steel vat temperature control by thermal pipe. Traditional ageing in oak barrels (35% new oak barrels each years).
