2007 Sor'Emilio, Bicocchi, Tuscany, Italy, Monteregio di Massa Marittima

The Bicocchi family has been producing wine in Maremma since 1851. In the year 1894 Emilio Bicocchi built a cellar of 5000 hectoliters underground and organized vertically on three levels applying advanced methods for the time.

All the Bicocchi wines are produced exclusively with grapes gathered in their own vineyards to grant their special characteristics and give the customers products that are genuine, ethical and loyal. As the English say their products are characterized by the 3 P's: Place, Plant, People.

The vineyards are planted on the side of the farm, located on a plateau among hills, 3km in distance west of Massa Marittima (Grosseto) and 8km from the sea. The calcareous soil on a layer of clay, makes the drainage of water possible during the rainy season and keeps humidity in the hot and dry season.

The micro-climate is excellent for the vines because it's characterized by mild winters while in the summer the sea breeze mitigates the day-time temperature and during the night the breeze coming from the inland woody hills lowers the temperature of approximately 14°C.

The remarkable daily thermic range of temperature and features of the soil give the grapes the special characteristics that are decisive to produce wine with strong personality.

Yield is 45 hl/hectare. Harvest end of September. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Ripening of 18 months on French barrels of Allier. Great vintage in Italy.
