1999 Château Grand Corbin, Bordeaux, France, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Situated in the North-west of Saint-Emilion, on the gravel plateau near Cheval Blanc and Pomerol. This area belongs since the early nineteenth century to the Despagne family. It is derived from the extensive vineyard Grand Corbin, property of the Black Prince in the fourteenth century. Afterwards it was divided, and it gave birth to several castles associated with the name of "Grand Corbin."

Known from the late nineteenth century, it was at this time that it took its current name. It became Premier Grand Cru Classé in the ranking in Saint-Emilion in 1954, but after a certain decline in the 80s it was disqualified in 1996. After this bad period, things only got better and they became again Grand Cru Classé in 2006. Since 1996, François Despagne, passionate winemaker and oenologist representing the seventh generation, is the director of the castle.

Vast vineyard of 38 hectares, it is planted on sandy loam, with some presence of iron slag. Density is close to 6000 vines / ha and the average age close to 35 years. Culture respects the Charter of Sustainable Viticulture. Manual harvesting.
