2011 Domaine de Milan, Bordeaux, France, Pessac-Léognan

The Pessac-Léognan is a communal AOC, produced in the Graves vineyards of Bordeaux and along the Garonne in the southeast of the city of Bordeaux. The appellation produces mainly red wines at a rate of 67,000 hl / year on 1,300 ha and also dry white wines: about 15,000 hl / year on 265 ha.

Pessac Léognan is a relatively young appellation because it was only in 1987 that the national institute officially recognized this appellation.

Although Pessac-Léognan is a relatively recent appellation, it paradoxically enjoys a certain maturity with a terroir dating back to Roman times. Thus youth, maturity and petulance mingle and combine to regroup the grand crus de Graves of Bordeaux and make it one of the most dynamic cradles of Bordeaux wines. The potential of the appellation was already recognized by experts and specialists even before official recognition in 1987.

Moreover, Pessac-Léognan is illustrated by an original terroir which is astonishing and unique in the world: deposition of gravel, pebbles and gravels from the Garonne, for nearly 2 million years.

The very special terroir of Pessac-Léognan offers to the red wines of the appellation a very generous and strongly tannic taste while being slightly fruity and accompanied by a slight note of licorice.
