2008 Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux, Bordeaux, France, Moulis-en-Médoc

Château Dutruch Grand Poujeaux takes its name from the owner who founded it in 1850. It are the descendants of Dutruch from whom François Cordonnier bought the property in 1967.

Aided by the experience and knowledge gained in many vineyards in France, including the Château de Chenonceau where he was manager for many years, he left a footprint on the vineyard management and in the vinification. The wines are reflecting his personality, all with power and elegance. Since 1993, Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier pursues with his wife Nathalie (and with enthusiasm!) the work of his uncle and aunt.

The property consists of thirty hectares located mostly on the rump of Garonne gravel hill which makes the reputation of the wines of Grand Poujeaux. These pebbles offer many advantages to the vine. They provide an excellent natural drainage and a reflection of the sun on the grapes. They allow the roots to sink deep into the earth, revealing the way to the complexity of the various layers of the soil. Moreover, poverty of the soil induces a phenomena of concentration of the berries, a guarantee for the quality of future wines.

High average age of the vines: 25 years. Manual harvest (60%) or mechanical (40%) depending on the age of the plot. Concrete tanks and stainless steel tanks equipped with thermal regulation. Ageing: 18 months, including 12 in oak barrels (1/3 new barrels each year).
