2011 Château de la Maltroye, Bourgogne Aligoté, Burgundy, France, Bourgogne Aligoté

Château la Maltroye is a family vineyard (Jean-Pierre Cornut leads the domain today) acquired in 1940. The Château de La Maltroye with its roof of glazed tiles from the 18th century is located at the top of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. It has beautiful vaulted cellars from the 15th century.

The domain has 13 Ha of Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 Ha of Santenay. It has a production of about 60,000 bottles a year, 60% white (Chardonnay), 40% red (Pinot Noir), 70% of the first crus from the most prestigious vineyards.

With mechanically worked soil, reasonable culture for treatment and control over the return, this domain is focused on quality. The grapes obtained, harvested and sorted manually, ensure the development of great wines.

Stirring and malolactic fermentation in barrels. After 12 months of aging, light filtration before bottling at the Domaine.

This small vineyard of ¾ acres is situated outside the Clos du Chateau de la Maltroye in Chassagne-Montrachet. A top layer of gravel, clay and marl gives the fleshy, structure and finesse. Aligoté is for many winemakers the little wine to make a Kir. This is totally different for the Château de La Maltroye: here the wine takes many months of aging on lees. The wine gains enormously in power and complexity, and it is a great summer wine with lots of freshness.
