2016 Heirloom Red, Piekenierskloof, Swartland, South Africa,
Nestled in the Citrusdal Mountains, about 50 kilometers north of Swartland, is the splendid plateau of Piekenierskloof. The plateau offers an ideal environment for growing vines. Located at 750 meters above sea level, the plateau's climate is characterized by warm days and cool nights, which allow the grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex aromas of fruit.
There are some of the oldest vines of the country. This treasure planted in 1954 had a first success when renowned winemakers (Sadie, Ellis, Forrester, ...) used them for some of their cuvées. In 2015, under the leadership of Charles Back, the decision was made to reserve these vines for the creation of a new line of wines under the name of Piekenierskloof.
